Sharks, soft corals, firewalkers and traditional Fijian villages.

Beqa Lagoon Resort April 17-26 2026

Beqa Lagoon Resort April 17-26 2026

Introduction: We travelled to Beqa (pronounced “Bengar”) Lagoon Resort three times between 2007 and 2013 and loved the place! It has a great blend of cultural opportunities and some terrific soft coral diving at sites like “Fantasea” and “Joe’s Best”. The resort is located on Beqa Island which is a 45-minute boat ride from the main island of Viti Levu. To get to the boat transfer, it is a 2.5-hour scenic road trip along the Coral Coast - quite an interesting journey with a shop stop at Deuba for souvenirs and a stretch of the legs. The big attraction at Beqa is one of the world’s best Shark dives, with up to 9 species of Sharks present. This is relatively unusual - it was fascinating watching the different behaviour of each shark and the environmental niche each fills. Beqa is also a cultural experience - the resort is located between Raviravi and Rukua, two Fijian villages and once gets a pretty good glimpse of life in a Fijian village. You are quite welcome to visit the village - I have fond memories of netball and rugby games with the locals. The resort has daily cultural activities and offers something for divers, snorkellers or sun worshippers who just want to hang around the pool and have a massage at the spa. Beqa now also has a new fleet of three fast alloy catamaran dive boats, making the more distant dive sites near Yanuca easily accessible. Food is a feature of the resort, and those who travelled with us back in 2010 will no doubt be happy to hear Lala is still the chef! The pool and bar area is fabulous and this is a full service dive operation. Unlimited free shore diving is included and we are lucky to have scored two days shark diving (for those who want to admire the toothed fishies!) Join us diving with the firewalkers in April 2026.

Activities

Resort Fiji and Beqa Lagoon Resort are well known for their world class diving but so many other activities are available for vacations. Swim, snorkel, paddle-board or explore the lagoon by kayak. You might even want to catch a wave surfing at Fiji’s Pipeline – Frigate Pass. If slowing down is your idea of paradise, you can relax poolside or in a hammock, coconut cocktail in hand.  Anglers simply must experience the adrenaline rush of deep-sea fishing. On land you can hike to remote mystical waterfalls or spot your share of many exotic bird species. Gather your friends for a lively game of volleyball or try your hand at lawn bowling.

Snorkelling

If you crave the lagoon’s warm water, you can swim, snorkel, or explore by kayak or with one of our complimentary paddle-boards. Of course, Beqa Lagoon is a divers dream come true – the coral comes in all colors of the rainbow and the variety of fish species is amazing.  If you’re seeking that adrenaline rush, try surfing the left reef break at Fiji’s Pipeline or deep-sea fishing to catch that tuna.  If your idea of paradise is relaxing poolside or in a beachfront hammock with a cocktail in hand, you will have found your bit of heaven on earth.

FUN LAND ADVENTURES

Hike to remote, mystical waterfalls, and spot your share of the island’s exotic bird species along the way. Join us for a walkabout the grounds to learn about the many uses we have for the plants grown here, including their unique medicinal purposes. Take a walk through the rain forest to discover local villages or hike to the top for amazing views. For a change of pace, grab a coconut beverage and test one of our hammocks for some relaxation complete with an ocean view and balmy breeze.

The MEKE Performance

The meke is a dance that is older than time itself. The villagers arrive – adults, teenagers, and children as young as three to perform this ancient dance and song. The women smelling of frangipani and the men glistening in coconut oil, wield their war clubs all to the rhythmic beat of drums and chanting.

Kava Ceremony

You will have an opportunity to sit side by side with your Fiji friends and participate in a traditional kava ceremony. Kava is Fiji’s national drink – you will learn about its history and the role it plays in Fiji today. Once you share a bowl of kava together you are friends for life.

Beqa Island Fire Walkers

You won’t believe your eyes during the sacred fire walking ceremony as village warriors in traditional dress chant and walk across scalding stones, as they have done for over 300 years. You’ll learn the legend behind this mysterious ritual which originated on Beqa Island and was even the subject of a National Geographic documentary filmed at the resort.

Local Village Tour

Do not leave Fiji without experiencing the real Fijian life. Come and visit the villages where most of our BEQA team and their families live. You will be welcomed as friends. You are likely to meet the chief and experience how the ways of ancient customs are still very much alive today. Out of respect for the villagers, women guests must have their shoulders and knees covered. A t-shirt and sulu (sarong) or a skirt are suitable attire. Sulus are available at our boutique.

Kayaking

If you crave more adventure, explore the shorelines many coves with one of our ocean kayaks.  You can while away the hours paddling around and sightseeing on your own or join our exciting Mangrove kayak trip. This journey will take you down the river to the other side of the island where you will enter the surreal world of the mangrove forests.

“TOP DIVE RESORT IN THE WORLD”
© Scuba Diving Magazine

Surrounded by over 190 miles of spectacular coral reef, on one of the Worlds largest barrier reefs, Beqa Lagoon Resort offers divers a gateway to a wonderland of marine life and some of the best diving in Fiji, the soft coral capital of the World. With dive sites that start as shallow as 15ft (5m) and drop away to nearly 100ft (30m), divers are able to explore at a variety of depths, depending on what they are in search of.

All of our boat dives are guided by PADI Divemasters who have been diving the waters of Beqa since they were children. Knowing every small hole and hiding place on these pristine reefs, they are able to show divers all of the colorful and amazing treasures that these waters hold from Blue-ribbon eels, Clown Triggerfish, Leaf Scorpionfish to camouflaged day Octopus. You’ll be surrounded by rainbows of vivid pink and orange anthias and silver-blue fusiliers. Take some time to explore sunken wrecks or feed your adrenaline with  Beqa’s  ‘Big Fish and Shark Encounter’, a dive that teases you with huge groupers, bait balls of massive Trevally, and the chance to be up close and personal with 9 different shark species. Why not even travel out to the edge of the reef and dive along under the famous Frigates surf break, enjoying your lunch on the boat as you watch the waves crash, and then sneak in that third dive before heading back to the resort for happy hour.

Our beautiful house reef is perfect for diving any time of day or night, and unlimited shore diving is included in every dive package. Located straight out from the resort, the house reef boasts healthy hard corals, numerous juvenile reef fish, rays, and even the elusive seahorse who likes to hide in the shallow eelgrass. Reaching a maximum depth of 25ft (8m) this site is not only perfect for diving but makes an ideal protected area for snorkeling too. The dive center has complimentary snorkeling gear available for guests, as well as a full range of dive equipment for rental, night lights, and even UV lights if you want to try fluorescent night diving- the only way to see the true colors of the corals!  Please reserve your dive gear rentals prior to your arrival.

The resorts On-site nitrox compressor allows divers to take advantage of extending their no-decompression limits, spending more time looking around the reefs in awe of the colors, or searching out the amazing hidden cryptic macro life. Not Nitrox certified? At Beqa Lagoon Resort you are able to partake in a wide variety of PADI specialty courses including Enriched Air Nitrox, a course that can be done in just one day. As a full-service PADI 5* dive center, we also offer a full range of courses from a basic introduction to scuba diving and the popular PADI Open Water course, through to entry-level professional level courses such as PADI Divemaster and PADI Assistant Instructor.

Those of us who travelled back in 2010 may remember the spacious but slow old ex-cray boats. Beqa now has twin hulled much faster Cats, allowing access to the better dive sites further out. BONUS - we get to do two days of Shark Diving (if you choose to do so).
